Florent Piton

Ingénieur Structure en chef étudiant

Description

Florent Piton is a second-year Master's student in Mechanical Engineering at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He joined the Rocket Team in 2021, a student association whose aim is to develop a bi-liquid rocket capable of reaching an altitude of 100 km before 2030. He first joined the structure group to design and participate in the production of mechanical parts. Subsequently, as part of his Bachelor's project, he co-designed a generatively cooled 5 kN bi-liquid motor, entirely printed in 3D metal, which was the subject of a scientific publication at the Space Propulsion Conference 2024 in Glasgow. Currently, he is Team Leader for the structure team, where he supervises 17 students in the design, production and testing of mechanical parts for the Firehorn rocket, designed to fly 9 km in 2025 and 30 km in 2026. He ensures that the specifications and deadlines are met, while training the new students who join the association.
