Vates is the company behind the open-source virtualization stack: XCP-ng, Xen Orchestra, and
XOSTOR. We deliver a fully open-source alternative to VMware and Citrix XenServer, trusted
by thousands of organizations worldwide. As we grow and work with more technology
partners, we need to strengthen our validation and certification process to ensure seamless
hardware compatibility.
The Role
We are looking for a Hardware Validation & Certification Engineer to join the XCP-ng team.
This role is key to ensuring that XCP-ng runs reliably across a wide variety of partner hardware
platforms, from servers to storage to networking devices.
You will work closely with our technology partners (server manufacturers, storage vendors,
etc.), accessing their remote labs or dedicated hardware to validate and certify compatibility
with XCP-ng. Certified partners will receive the “Vates Certified” seal, confirming Tier 1
support and integration.
You will also manage and expand the official Hardware Compatibility List (HCL), making it the
go-to reference for customers, partners, and our support teams.
Key Missions
• Validate partner hardware (compute, storage, network) against XCP-ng, ensuring
stability, performance, and compatibility.
• Manage the Vates Hardware Compatibility List (HCL), keeping it accurate, exhaustive,
and up to date.
• Provide feedback to both Vates developers and partners regarding hardware issues,
drivers, and known limitations.
• Build tooling and automation to accelerate validation, with the long-term goal of
designing a certification kit.
• Act as the internal hardware referent, supporting other teams (support, alliances,
documentation) with hardware expertise.
• Contribute to knowledge base (KB) articles and documentation on hardware support
and known issues.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-have:
• Solid knowledge of Linux systems and virtualization concepts.

• Understanding of server hardware components (CPU, memory, storage, networking).
• Knowledge of storage systems (SAN, NAS, HCI), networking (VLANs, bonding,
10/25/100G, etc.), and firmware updates.
• Scripting or automation skills (Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.) to speed up validation.
• Experience with system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to test and document results in a structured way.
• Comfortable working independently with external partners.
Nice-to-have:
• Familiarity with XCP-ng or Xen-based virtualization.
• Experience managing a hardware compatibility list or similar documentation.
• Previous experience with hardware certification, QA, or partner engineering.
